We do some teeth straightening in our practice. Dr. Starkey will straighten teeth where the problem is not complex and where it would be more of an inconvenience for orthodontists that are treating full mouth crowded cases.
He prefers metal self ligating brackets because they move teeth faster than ceramic (tooth colored) brackets.
We do not do Invisilign because the cases we choose work out faster without that system and is much more affordable than invisilign appliances.
In cases of crowding of lower anteriors which seems to be an almost ubiquitous problem Dr. Starkey will do slight interproximal stripping of the sides of the incisors-no more than .25 mm per side and the tongue and lip will help re align the front lower teeth.
It is an inexpensive way to solve a crowding problem NOT a perfect way./
On the other hand there is not the problem of relapse. In orthodontic cases half of them relapse to some extent. That is because the teeth are not worn down interproximally due to our softer diets. You will never see crowding on the lower front teeth of cavemen.
